Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar has criticized PTI founder Imran Khan for his inconsistent stance on Sheikh Mujib. He said the leader glorified Mujib as a hero only to change the narrative when things changed. Speaking at a press conference last week, Ata Tarar said that taking U-turns has become the trademark of the PTI founder. He added that if there was a degree for taking U-turns, all universities should collectively award it to him. “Sheikh Mujib: A Hero or a Tool for Political Gain?”
While addressing the media, Atta Tarar revealed that Imran Khan initially praised Sheikh Mujib, comparing himself with the leader who played an essential role in the creation of Bangladesh. PTI’s social media accounts reflected the same narrative, portraying Mujib as a hero. However, this admiration didn’t last long. When someone toppled Sheikh Mujib’s statue in Dhaka, the PTI leader suddenly changed his stance. He criticized the people of Bangladesh and shifted his entire narrative about them. He also accused Imran Khan of using historical figures like Sheikh Mujeeb for political gains and later discarding them when they no longer suited his agenda.
“Divisive Politics: A Recurring Theme”
Tarar sharply criticized the actions, stating they resembled those of the regime that caused divisions in Bangladesh. He noted that Imran Khan has a history of such behavior, having previously promoted divisive politics through comments about neighboring countries. What struck Tarar the most was PTI’s claim of being a unifying force. Still, its deeds tell a different story, i.e., creating rifts among various sections of society using sensitive historical events to achieve political ends.
Ameer Muqam Calls Out Imran Khan’s Conditional Apology
Federal Minister Ameer Muqam criticized the PTI founder by calling his recent apology conditional, which he thinks was a strategic move. He said that Imran Khan is a hypocrite because he earlier admitted responsibility for the May 9 events and is now asking for evidence regarding attacks on over two hundred military installations, including GHQ. The minister questioned the sincerity behind this kind of apology and suggested that it might have been made in anticipation of a good outcome rather than genuine regret.
Talal Chaudhry Urges for Sincere Apology
Senior PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry also criticized Imran Khan but urged him to make an unconditional apology instead of a conditional one, given the gravity attached to those May 9 incidents. Considering what happened that day, he said that anything short of genuine and unreserved would not be acceptable. Imran Khan’s current position only shows his lack of willingness to take full responsibility for his actions.
