Apple Maps Launches on Web to Challenge Google Maps

Apple announced on Wednesday that it has made Maps accessible through the web through a public beta. They have allowed users to access the service directly from their browsers. This means that now Maps and Google Maps can compete with each other as both are available on the web.

Apple Compatibility and Languages

Maps on the Web is in English and supports Safari and Chrome browsers on Mac and iPad. It also supports Chrome and Edge browsers on Windows PCs. Additionally, Apple will soon add more languages, platforms, and browsers.

Apple Features and Functionality

The functionality of Apple Maps on the web is similar to its mobile app version. People can use it to get directions when driving or walking. Moreover, they can also order food from map place cards, read curated guides and reviews, etcetera. Furthermore, in the coming months, plans to add more features like “Look Around,” which is its 360-degree panoramic view, to the web version.

Integration for Developers

According to Apple, developers can link to maps on the web so that their users can get driving directions or see detailed information about places, among other things. Apple Maps is now available online, aiming to compete with Google Maps. Explore its features and see how it stacks up.

Apple Strategic Expansion

After introducing this service to iPhones, it took 12 years to launch an online version of Apple Maps. Strategically speaking, it was done to reach out to a more significant audience, thereby challenging Google Maps, which happens to be the most widely used mapping system over Internet applications developed by any company, especially considering its dominant status since establishment times when there were no alternatives except Yahoo! Map even though they had limitations such as only being accessible through desktop computers running Windows operating systems, whereas Apple’s, if not mistaken, runs smoothly without any hiccups across various devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etcetera.
