Expensive Electricity | Traders’ Nationwide Protest July 1

 

The All Pakistan Traders Association has announced a nationwide protest on July 1 in opposition to the latest hike in power payments. They have warned the federal authorities that if the additional taxes related to expensive electricity are not withdrawn by June 30th. They will announce their next course of action.

Press Conference Highlights

In a joint press convention held in Islamabad, the All Pakistan Traders Association President Ajmal Baloch. Along with other leaders, the government was advised to reverse the oppressive increase in strength payments immediately. They criticized the Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Authorities and officials own these agencies and are paid for forty-eight thousand megawatts in dollars, similar to the USA. Best wishes, 22,000 megawatts. The association called for a review of the agreements with IPPs and the withdrawal of fixed taxes.

Traders’ Demands

Ajmal Baloch emphasized that traders do not want to protest but are forced to do so due to unfair taxation. He announced that traders would hold protests in every city and town on July 1 and urged the public to support their cause to end this injustice.

Support from Rawalpindi Traders

The press conference was attended by numerous outstanding figures from the Rawalpindi buyers’ community, which include Tariq Jadoon, Vice President of Anjuman Tajran Rawalpindi; Sheikh Hafeez, President of Anjuman Tajran Rawalpindi Cantt; Shehzad Abbasi, President of Super Market; Syed Altaf Shah, President of Sitara Market; and Khalid Chaudhry, Secretary of the Traders Action Committee.
