NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) has imposed fixed charges on consumers as part of a govt increase in the basic electricity tariff.
These flat rates are included in the consumer base rate and have raised the basic electricity tariff by Rs 5.72 per unit. Now, domestic electric users will be charged a flat fee ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 1000 monthly.
NEPRA’s new power rates will become effective from July 1st onwards. For residential customers, monthly flat fees are determined according to their consumption levels, anywhere between Rs 200 and Rs 1000/month.
NEPRA says commercial customers will see their fixed charges rise by as much as three times, while industrial users may experience up to three-and-a-half times higher charges. This will allow distribution companies to boost revenue through this method.
