Meta to Manufacture Quest 3S Headsets in Vietnam

Meta, owner of Facebook, has disclosed the intention to manufacture Quest 3S in Vietnam, the new generation of virtual and augmented reality headsets. The move is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs in the country, which portrays Vietnam’s increasing importance in the global supply chains net.

Vietnam’s Appeal as an Investment Destination Meta

The announcement comes as Vietnam is trying to develop itself as an investment hub for various world corporations, which are mainly manufacturers and exporters, as well as an effective segment within a value chain provided by the world economy. The President of Global Affairs of Meta, Nick Clegg, mentioned during a tech conference in Hanoi: ‘We will, with our local partners, be manufacturing them here in Vietnam. We estimate that this will create well over ten thousand new jobs.’

Vietnam’s Push Up the Global Supply Chain Meta

Vietnam has always regarded the export of textiles, footwear, and wooden household articles as its low-end manufacturing sector. However, the country is determined to climb higher on the global supply chain ladder. Last week, the administration disclosed that the conspiracies were hypothetical. Still, there are plans for Elon Musk’s SpaceX woto invest $1.5 billion in the country, which enhances its position as a high-tech manufacturing center.

In the past month, Vietnam’s most senior political figure, To Lam, made a trip to New York, where he met with executives of Apple, Meta, and IT company Supermicro. In this chain of events, he also met the U.S. president, following Biden’s state visit to Vietnam, during which he sought to improve trade relations.

Chip Market Attracts Vietnam

Further, there is more enthusiasm in the country to venture into the chip manufacturing industry. The recent disruptions in the international supply chain and the very high dependence on China are key drivers for more investors into the country. As per the goal of enhancing its goal of emerging in the core chip market, Vietnam is attempting to enhance its technological capacities.

Meta’s Activities in Vietnam

Meta platforms are popular in Vietnam, where many people, according to Nick Clegg, use them for activities other than just communication, such as for business, which is not the call or video messenger but also the message app. Nonetheless, human rights organizations have expressed concern over Facebook’s compliance with the Vietnamese government’s request to remove pages and content deemed illegal. Although social movement organizers frequently use it, Facebook’s support of government censorship has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, particularly in a state where independent press is illegal.

Technological Ambitions of Vietnam

Meta will manufacture its Quest 3S headset in Vietnam, which means that the country’s technological activities have advanced, making it a competitor among other countries in Southeast Asia. By seeking to attract significant tech investments, Vietnam is raising a banner, this time for advancing in the global supply chain and becoming a future facilitator of complex manufacturing.
