Maulana Fazlur Rehman Warns: Pakistan’s Institutions in Peril

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, as the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has cited the failure to adhere to the Constitution as one of the reasons behind the declining health of Pakistan’s institutions. While speaking at a function in Karachi, Maulana Fazlur Rehman pronounced the expansion of the stormy clouds of instability and weakness within the nation. He urged for immediate concrete steps to fortify the country’s superstructure and reinstate faith in the governance and economy of Pakistan.

Shortage of Political and Economic Stability

His speech also revealed that Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that ‘Pakistan is not politically stable as well as economically stable.’ He remarked, ‘There is no political stability in Pakistan or economic stability. The Constitution is not secured, and so are the institutions.’ Indeed political events and economic development within a relatively significant period have combined in forming and taking away people’s and investors’ trust to and from the state.

Lack of Engagement by Businesses Globally Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also emphasized that the world is ready to do business with Pakistan in its development agenda. He commented, “The world is not ready to do business with us.” This hesitation is because of the unstable political scene in the country and the non-implementation of the constitutional mandate, which has resulted in ineffective institutions and an unstable economy. This unwillingness of the rest of the world to invest in Pakistan makes the economic situation in the country worse than before, creating a chokehold on prospects for financial advancement and entrenching a cycle of stagnation and poverty.

Consequences of Non-Compliance with the Constitution Maulana Fazlur Rehman

The issue of respect for the Constitution was one of the significant issues that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s speech addressed. It has been noted that not respecting the Constitution leads to the downgrading of all the organs of government. “By not deporting the Constitution, all the system is dying,” he proclaimed. He maintained that if the government does not attempt to rectify the present predicament, constitutional law violation will prevail, aggravating the issues at hand and bringing the nation deeper into turbulence.

How has Technology Contributed to the Growth of the Economy

Despite all the negative things he mentioned about the country above,  Rehman was optimistic that modern technology can help harness economic growth. There was commendable eagerness by the business community, particularly the information technology (IT) hardware and software. He stated, “I am glad businessmen are looking for advanced technologies.

Increasing Instability and Lawlessness Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Maulana Fazlur Rehman was equally anxious about the increasing lawlessness and insecurity in the country. He expressed regret that such peaceful people as ordinary citizens do not feel secure any more gel because of militants plus the increasing crime waves that are taking over the cities. “Let me be clear: there is not a single city in this country that is safe for ordinary peace-loving citizens as armed groups and street crime waves go across the country. ” He argued that the instability within a country creates such a situation of lawlessness and indiscipline where there are no active measures to uphold the Constitution. The atmosphere of fear has plunged the country into chaos; Citizens are losing hope that the government will ever re-establish peace and order in the society.

Strengthening Institutions Maulana Fazlur Rehman

While delivering the speech,  Fazlur Rehman maintained his focus on reconstructing such institutions in Pakistan as the judiciary. He expressed the wish all such institutions, including the judiciary, should be active and independent,, political or otherwise. “We want to see all institutions, including the judiciary, stronger and stronger,” he said. His appeal for stronger ones is thoughtfully anchored in that national stability and prosperity can only be achieved within a stable legal framework and order.

This visit emphasizes the aspect with which Maulana Fazlur Rehman regards learning from religion and the prominent places men like Maulana Badakhshani occupied in the intellectual life of Pakistan.
