An attorney in Pakistan, Dr. Barrister Saif has expressed his displeasure with the Pakistani government, referring to it as a sham and an abuse of power that has sacrificed the independence of the judiciary for meager political opportunism.
The Cutting Up Of the Judiciary and Everybody Goes For Her Independence Barrister Saif
Dr. Saif’s greatest apprehension was over the unflinching doe-eyed notion of the state as perhaps the last remaining shelter for the separation of powers. He made it clear that this is not just a question of law or politics; it is a matter of and poses a danger to the democratic fiber of the nation. Dr. Saif asserted that the present administration was forcing circumstances upon courts in its favor, thus abandoning the more traditional view of judicial independence. He cautioned that there will be consequences that will be quite devastating, such as removing the confidence of the people in the rule of law.
Hidden Amendments – A Sign of Bad Intention? or Bad Reason?
This is why Dr Saif called the finger at the unreasonable government and his conduct in the case of the resignation amendment very complex. For instance, one of the reasons civil rights advocates is that the government has deliberately made the draft of either bill unavailable to the masses. He commented that people have a right to access information on its contents, which is impossible in this case. In his words, ‘Not showing the draft of the proposed amendments lets it be known that conceiving the entire plan is indeed erroneous. The fake government is now hiding the draft from its allies, let alone the opposition.’ According to Dr. Saif, this covert maneuvering attempts to justify why there is an amendment in question without revealing, or at least adequately explaining, the rationale behind the amendment.
Both the Allies and the Opposition are Deceived Barrister Saif
The authorities have focused special attention on misinforming the opposition and restricting political allies. He specifically claimed that they made several modifications to the controversial changes, aiming these drafts at enticing diverse audiences to support the government’s agenda.“The government has prepared various drafts of the amendments to mislead the opposition and even its allies,” he noted and thus denounced the adverse measures of the changes replying to these changes. Dr. Saif said that this suggests to what lengths a government would go to maintain its grip on power; they will even turn against their most loyal supporters.
The Legal Profession in the Protection of the Independence of the Judiciary
Dr. Saif called on the legal community to act and reject the proposed amendments. He stressed that lawyers, rather than politicians, have more to lose when it comes to upholding the independence of the judiciary. “It is the legal community that should support PTI in opposing these amendments,” he added, stressing the importance of maintaining the decorum of the judicial system. He still recalled that centuries ago, and even in recent times, when there had been turmoil and lawyers stood up to defend the dictatorship at the hands of the lawyers, with the people mobilizing behind them.
The Cost Paid by Lawyers and Their Ongoing Duty
Dr. Saif applauded lawyers’ devotion to upholding judicial independence through the ages. He ascertained that members of the legal profession have always been at the center of the defense of the institution of the judiciary from plots. Their efforts have been crucial in preserving a righteous legal system in Pakistan. He said, “The members of the legal profession have endured a lot to defend the independence of the judiciary, and they have averted every single conspiracy against it.”
He argued that noting trusting courts and upholding the integrity of the boundaries cannot be reserved for politicians only. Instead, it is teamwork, especially from the people who practice law and appreciate the technical details and ethics behind judicial independence inspection more than any ordinary person.
Call for Dissolution of Government Barrister Saif
Lastly, speaking to the audience, Barrister Dr. Saif was straightforward and sought the current administration to quit. He averred that the administration is inefficient and ineffective in its management of the people’s affairs and that such an administration that is unable to manage this most fundamental issue of judicial independence should resign. “They are useless, and presuming power they recreate the country is utmost weakness. The fictitious government led over the applause of incompetency and refusal should resign voluntarily,” he said.
Conclusion
Saif’s remarks, among others, highlight an increasing dissatisfaction with the government’s policies and views on crucial issues. By concealing the details of the proposed amendments and manipulating the opposition and its own allies, the government risks delegitimizing justice and damaging democracy itself.
