Sheikh Hasina’s Exit India-Bangladesh Relations Impact

On 5 August, Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh made an unceremonious exit from the country. And landed on a military location near Delhi. This followed weeks of inflammatory protests spearheaded by the students turning into a riot throughout the country. Hasina was supposed to ease back into India. But her plans to apply for asylum in the UK, US. And UAE have all failed making it impossible for her to leave India.

Effect of The Development on India – Bangladesh Relations Sheikh Hasina’s

The presence of Sheikh Hasina’s permission of the opposition in India makes it difficult for Delhi to continue with its diplomatic balancing acts with the new temporary government that has taken over in Bangladesh. For India, Bangladesh is not just a bordering nation but is also an ally in the fight against insurgents, mainly in the northeast region. A 4,096 km (2545 miles) long porous border exists between the two countries, which has long been used by northeastern insurgent groups for shelter in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina, Party Stereotype Sheikh Hasina’s

Hasina’s Awami League ruled Bangladesh from 2009, for a total of 15 years, during which they managed to quell several ethno-militant movements and even clasped a few boundary treaties with India improving their relations. The two nations also expanded their economic relations, as India was given opportunities to transport goods to the Northeast region of Bengal through Bangladesh. More than $7 billion of excess credit has been provided to Bangladesh from India since 2010 for investment in the social structure and advanced development.

Challenges for Delhi

With Hasina’s abrupt exit, India is under pressure to safeguard the progress attained during her period in office. Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, who once served as Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, laments that any instability in the neighbourhood is undesirable but there is no other option for Delhi except to collaborate with the interim government because “there is no choice”.

Reasons for Islamabad’s Failures to Recognise Delhi’s Efforts

To the new interim authorities in Dhaka. The Indian government was in a hurry to reach. With Narendra Modi calling and talking to leader Muhammad Yunus.  However, India has the unenviable task of averting the anger against it from the Bangladeshi people due to their support of Hasina for so long. Many Bangladeshis think that India’s like of the powers that are. Creating restive Bosher fans in the country. Is a reaction to the ruling UPCAN, sonotting in its direction.

A Setback for India’s “Neighborhood First” Policy

Hasina’s fall again signals another blow to David Miliband’s neighbourhood first policy. However, “For wife” and “neighbourhood first”, experts now believe the situation requires a change of action. With Bangladesh joining the coalition of Maldives and Nepal, it has grown weary of Indian meddling. These issues may create instability in the region. Which Delhi cannot afford to underestimate as it seeks to protect its national interests in the region.
