Several tragic incidents that claimed 18 lives, including women and children, have resulted from the ongoing Torrential Rains in Pakistan. This came as a result of unrelenting rain that broke a 77-year-old record in Sukkur.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Demands Extensive Report on Sindh’s Rain Devastation?
In this regard, the Chairman of, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his concern approximately the large size of destruction because of the monsoon rains in Sindh province. In his statement, Bilawal underscored the instant want for rainwater drainage from low-lying areas of Sukkur and Larkana.
Sukkur Mayor and spokesman for Sindh Government. Arsalan Islam Shaikh stated that Sukkuur had experienced its highest-ever rainfall in 77 years of the history of Pakistan with a record 290 mm of rain. He further mentioned that 80% of floodwater has been drained from these areas. While efforts were underway to drain the remaining last percent of twenty areas.
Tragic Accidents Due To Heavy Rainfall
There have been several deadly accidents due to heavy rains all over Pakistan. Two young siblings lost their lives tragically after falling into an ongoing sewer line installation work-filled water trench in Jhang. Also, Sahiwal witnessed a severe storm that interrupted the electricity supply leading to the burning out of transformers numbering 18. So far two students aged between twelve and fourteen years have died from electrocution. While playing at their rooftop home they accidentally touched a wire carrying high voltage.
Two persons died, and eleven sheep perished because of lightning strikes in Khuzdar. Subsequently, there is also a high alert issued by the district administration for villages. Along the Ravi River due to rising water levels.
Buildings Collapse Due To Torrential Rains
On the other hand, several buildings have been collapsing due to the continuous rain. In Faisalabad, an old house’s roof collapsed killing one woman while her husband got injured. In Rawalpindi, a house in Pindi Gheb had its roof collapse and as a result, four died and two others were injured. Similarly, in another case within the neighborhood of Ahmedal which is nearby, four people lost their lives because of falling debris from dilapidated building roofs, and two others were critically injured.
In Lodhra, a wall collapsed as heavy rain was pouring leading to the death of one passerby. A 16-year-old girl also died in Rahim Yar Khan when she was trapped under a fallen roof.
Other Rain-Related Incidents
In Rahim Yar Khan, two individuals were bitten by poisonous snakes that crawled into their homes and mosques due to heavy rains with one dying at the hospital while the other is recuperating. Jacobabad had submerged several villages displacing many families. A mother together with her son were killed after a house’s roof caved in on them. Over 600 houses in Garhi Khairo were filled in with heavy rainwater forcing residents out of hundreds of acres of crops.
Landslides triggered by melting glaciers have cut off several areas in the Ghizer district from the rest of the Gilgit-Baltistan region. NDMA has issued an advisory forecasting more heavy rains and urban flooding across major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Peshawar next 24 hours.
