Court-Martial Against Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Initiated

 

The Pakistan Army has commenced court-martial proceedings against former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed, after taking him into military custody.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), following Supreme Court orders. The Pakistan Army conducted a detailed investigation into the complaints against Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed about the Top City case. The investigation revealed that Hameed violated the Pakistan Army Act multiple times after retirement. Therefore, disciplinary action under the Pakistan Army Act was initiated against him. And a Field General Court Martial was convened.

Top City Case Background Court-Martial

Muazz Ahmed Khan – the owner of Top City Housing Scheme- petitioned before the Supreme Court claiming that on May 12, 12personnel of Pakistan Rangers and ISI raided his office. And residence by the pretense of investigating a terrorism case during. Which valuable things including gold, diamonds, and cash were allegedly taken away.

The case took a significant turn when Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed’s brother Sardar Najaf tried to intervene and resolve the matter. Once cleared from this case, Hameed tried to meet with Muazz Khan through a Colonel cousin. Who introduced himself as a Brigadier being posted at GHQ Rawalpindi. In this meeting, Lt Gen(Retd) Faiz reportedly offered a return of 400 Tolas of Gold plus some money that was taken during the raid, among other things. Further allegations were made that retired Brigadiers Naeem Fakhar. And Ghaffar from ISI coerced the petitioner to accept forty million rupees cash. And help them sponsor a private TV channel for a few months. Other ex-ISI officials, including Arif Haroon, Sardar Najaf Waseem Tabish Zahid Mahmood Malik, and Muhammad Munir, were also found involved in the illegal occupation of the housing society.

Supreme Court Verdict  

November,r 14, 2023, the Supreme Court issued a written verdict highlighting that the allegations against Faiz Hameed were severe enough to be ignored. The petitioner stated that he and his family had been abducted in connection with the seizure of Top City. And the raid was conducted on the orders of Hameed. On the other hand, the court ruled out this petition. Stating that it does not fulfill the criteria set by article 184/3. Which is about enforcing fundamental rights. The court advised the petitioner to approach the Ministry of Defense and other appropriate forums.

Hearings also disclosed that the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell earlier handled another matter related to the same society. Kazi Faez Isa, while being informed by Chief Justice that former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered the destruction of all records associated to the case before leaving office.
