Recently, the Lahore court ordered that vlogger Umar Adil be released after being arrested based on a complaint filed by a female television anchor. The decision came during a hearing in which the court examined evidence and what was claimed about Mr. Adil.
Arrest and Complaint
Dr Umar Adil is known as a popular YouTuber. He was taken into custody following allegations made against him by an influential woman from her industry who works for private TV channel(s). This person claimed to have been deeply hurt when he used derogatory language about her on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc., according to police sources here Sunday night.”
Court Proceedings
The Cyber Crime Unit of the Federal Investigation Agency requested a remand for Dr. Umar Adil. The agency wanted a physical remand so they could investigate this matter further. However, after analyzing all points, the judge rejected the FIA’s request to take him into further custody and instead decided to set him free, granting him bail.
Bail Conditions
The judge granted bail amounting up to PKR 50,000 ($313) which needs to be submitted within the next seven days i.e. before 5th February 2022 otherwise his bail would get canceled automatically without any prior notice given by concerned authorities. The condition has been set to ensure compliance with legal proceedings related to a case under investigation while not interfering therein; also showing seriousness towards the offense committed, thereby avoiding such acts against peace prevailing among society members at large. Thus safeguarding public order as well law enforcement agents charged protection duty thereof.”
