Govt & Jamaat-e-Islami Near Agreement on Key Issues

 

The federal information minister, Attaullah Tarar, said he had made significant progress during his talks with Jamaat-e-Islami. He added that most issues have been agreed upon, and some have already been decided in writing. The minister appreciated the positive approach to dialogue and showed confidence in future discussions, saying that the next sitting will be held tomorrow to continue the negotiations.

PM’s’ Agenda: Cut in Power Rates

While talking to the media, I noticed that the Tara Government’s utmost priority is to bring down electricity prices. This step falls under the Prime Minister’s’ wider plan of relieving the financial burden on people. He informed me that major steps are being taken for this purpose, showing their seriousness about addressing public concerns.

Subsidy For Electricity Consumers Jamaat-e-Islami 

He further disclosed that a hefty subsidy worth Rs50 billion had been earmarked for electricity. Consumers who use up to 200 units monthly will continue using this facility for three months, i.e., June, July, and August, to ensure a cheap power supply for necessary household usage. Especially among low-income groups. Saving them from unbearable costs during difficult economic times. This is also part of government efforts towards protecting vulnerable sections of society.

Task Force On IPPs Jamaat-e-Islami 

The Information Minister also announced that an independent task force would be set up to investigate various aspects of Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The task force has been mandated to carry out a comprehensive review process aimed at plugging any loopholes or anomalies and bringing transparency and accountability in dealing with entities that provide energy services nationwide, thus enhancing efficiency within the power sector.

Meeting Jamaat-e-Islami Demands

Commenting on JI’s demands during the negotiation process, Mr.Tarar said many of these were already part of their agenda. Making it easier for both sides to negotiate more effectively together. He also announced the release of all workers who were arrested during their protest demonstration in Sialkot city, saying that it was done as a goodwill gesture towards creating a conducive environment where peace talks can thrive more easily, showing the government’s commitment to respecting democratic values, even opponents need to be treated fairly and if we are going achieve lasting reconciliation among various ethnic groups living side by side peacefully.
