Sources indicate that the party has arranged public protests starting from August 14. Hafiz Naeem will lead the first protest in Karachi on Friday, followed by similar protests in Peshawar, Lahore, and Quetta, while divisional-level protests will take place after provincial headquarters.
Key Issues and Demands
According to Secretary Information of Jamaat-e-Islami Qaiser Sharif, there is peace during this demonstration. The government should review agreements with independent power producers (IPPs) as per his demand. He further stated that we will continue our agitation against IPPs until the issues are settled. The government’s negotiation team failed to address our concerns about IPP dealings. Which we feel were completely ignored.
Rehman alleged that the government aims to discredit JI’s demands by claiming they’re unreasonable. He countered that they no longer produce continuously charged electricity. Additionally, he demanded accountability from those who signed these contracts worth billions, causing losses for Pakistan and called for the cancellation of expired deals with overpriced energy bills.
Government Accountability And Public Concerns
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticized the regime’s handling of various economic matters. He accused it of imposing new taxes on necessities like flour, sugar, rice, and milk, unfairly burdening salaried persons without considering landowners’ contributions. He pointed out incompetence in key positions, such as Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and the FBR chairman, due to conflicting interests.
Karachi contributes 54% of exports but lacks sufficient water gas facilities according to Rehman. Who warned more powers granted to FBR could hurt the industry further.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s protests will not stop until the government meets its demands including reducing electricity prices. Improving economic policies according to Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman also recommended gradually lowering interest rates instead of always borrowing from banks every time. They need money which shows a lack of long-term planning ability thus making them unfit rulers over Pakistan where JI intends to serve people faithfully till death do us part.
