Hafiz Naeem: Nationwide Protest on Fifth Day of Sit-In

 

Today, Jamaat-e-Islami will begin the sit-in outside the Governor House in Karachi. The party has presented ten demands to the government. Addressing the protest at Liaquat Bagh, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Hafiz Naeem, your Rehman stated that their primary market is publicizing the agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). He urged the government to avoid confrontation and conduct a forensic audit of IPPs.

Criticism of Government Failures

Hafiz Naeem, your Rehman criticized government officials who claim they cannot negotiate with IPPs or disclose the agreements, calling it a failure and incompetence rather than a mere constraint. He pointed out that the nation’s suffering resulted from the government’s failure, noting that previous administrations, including Pervez Musharraf, PPP, PML-N, and PTI, had agreements with IPPs.

Impact of the Protest on the Public

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman highlighted that the protest has instilled hope among Pakistan’s 250 million people. As paying electricity bills has become increasingly impossible. He accused the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of facilitating corruption worth one trillion rupees. He called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to announce that ministers and government officials should not use vehicles exceeding 1300 cc. Which could save 1350 billion rupees.

Debt Issues and Interest-Based System

Hafiz Naeem also mentioned that Pakistan’s internal and external debt has reached 65 trillion rupees, with benefits accruing to banks rather than the public. He promised that Jamaat-e-Islami would work towards eliminating the interest-based system.

Expansion of the Protest and Future Actions

He warned that the protest would expand if the government did not act promptly. In the next phase, Jamaat-e-Islami plans to block highways and extend the protest nationwide. He assured the party that it did not intend to disrupt peace but urged the government to avoid confrontation.

Statements from Siraj-ul-Haq

Former Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Siraj-ul-Haq remarked that they would fulfill their desire to go to D-Chowk. Asserting that the area does not belong to anyone. He blamed those in Islamabad for the country’s devastation and said that the nation is facing political and economic terrorism.
