Following the recent downpour across Lahore and a number of cities in Punjab, power supply has been disrupted in many areas. The Rain heavy showers caused serious interruptions that resulted in no electricity for many inhabitants.
In Lahore, rainfall affected several places including Johar Town, Town Ship, Thokar Niaz Baig, Defence Road, Davis Road, Mughalpura, Gowalmandi,Lakshmi Chowk among others. The rain brought relief from the scorching heat making the weather pleasant but this also interfered with power distribution.
Floods and Submersion in Low-Lying Areas
Apart from favorable weather conditions such as those described above heavy rains led to significant flooding in low-lying areas. Other areas; Uchhra,Muslim Town,Garden town,FaisalTown,Town Harbanspura,Islampura,Band Road had notable rains which led to water logging and localized flooding. As a result of this residents have flooded streets and temporary disruptions to their routine life.
Heavy Rains In Other Cities Of Punjab
The heavy rainfall did not affect only Lahore. Heavy showers also fell on other cities of Punjab including Gujranwala and Hafizabad. This downpour was extensive affecting various parts leading to similar problems associated with electric power cuts and floods.
Rainfall Patterns in Karachi
Rainfall varied across different parts of Karachi. While there was light rain at Tariq road ,Sharah-e-Faisal,and University road with drizzles at Malir and Korangi.Karachi’s weather has been fluctuating where some areas experienced more rain than others resulting into varying impacts on daily life within the city.
Rawalpindi And Weather Forecast
There was also heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi adding onto what had occurred throughout the region. There will be more rain according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. These localities should be ready for further weather changes.
Landslides Risk
According to Meteorological Department, there is also a risk of landslides in hilly areas of KPK including Murree/Galyat (Abbottabad), Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The combination between heavy rainfall and unstable terrains could result into serious hazards; therefore, the authorities are expected to be cautious.
Authorities’ Response
In response to rain-related disruptions, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed all departments to remain on high alert to handle any emergency situations. The objectives include quick resolution of power breakdowns and effective management of possible floods.
