Shehbaz Sharif: PTI Ban Late, May 9 Group Actions Intolerable

 

The government Shehbaz Sharif meeting shared the decision to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and initiate Article 6 proceedings against PTI founder Imran Khan, former President Arif Alvi, and former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.

Condemnation and Solidarity Resolutions

During a cabinet meeting, the government condemned in the strongest terms an attack on the Pakistani Consulate in Frankfurt and the desecration of the national flag. The resolution adopted by the organization expressed solidarity with oppressed Palestinians and condemned Israeli brutalities. It urged international legal, diplomatic, and administrative bodies to acknowledge these actions as genocide and war crimes.

Economic & Visa Policy Decisions

To promote business activities, investments, and tourism in the country, the Cabinet approved an online visa application system for citizens from 126 countries, enabling them to get business/tourist visas in 24 hours. Moreover, visas-on-arrival will be granted to third-country passport holders accompanying Sikh pilgrims.

Visa policy will accelerate economic activities and increase foreign exchange reserves: PM Shehbaz Sharif added that visa policy would accelerate economic activities and boost foreign reserves. He said the government is striving hard to facilitate businesses, including e-gates at airports for religious tourism promotion, thus strengthening the economy further.

Terrorism & Propaganda Discussion

PM Shehbaz Sharif addressed the recent wave of terrorism, describing it as an organized conspiracy with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) using Afghan territory against Pakistan. They underscored the need to protect national interests and prevent any propaganda against the armed forces, particularly the Army Chief and his family, calling it unacceptable.

He expressed concern over the May 9 events, during which some groups tried to destabilize the country again. He emphasized unity among political parties for national development harmony.

Palestinian Support & Israeli Condemnation

Cabinet reiterates its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people while condemning Israeli atrocities, stating despite international protests and UN resolutions, Israel’s oppression continues unabated. Therefore, the federal Cabinet promises more efforts in providing necessary supplies to Palestinians demanding action against Israel for war crimes.

Legal & Diplomatic Measures

The Cabinet also agreed to establish special courts for banking/financial cases under the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Act 1997 and signed an MoU with Denmark to enhance public-private partnerships in logistics, transport, sustainable growth, water waste management, and alternative energy.

Prime Minister’s Address

PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the need to facilitate business operations while ensuring the government is making significant efforts to address economic challenges. He mentioned that the government decided to cut budgets to provide subsidies to deserving electricity consumers and that increased terrorist activities in KP/Balochistan were due to neighboring countries using their territories for such acts, among other things.

He concluded by saying that his government is committed to keeping its citizens safe and resolving issues through peace talks, thereby ensuring peaceful coexistence.
