Islamabad High Court: Case Against IG if Missing Not Found

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of the Islamabad High Court has granted a three-day extension to the police to recover the missing person, Samiullah. Who disappeared from the jurisdiction of Police Station Sangjani. During a recent hearing, Justice Kiyani emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating, “I am giving you three days. If the person is not recovered by then, I will order an FIR against the IG (Inspector General of Police).”

Court’s Inquiry into Progress

During the hearing, the court questioned the police officers about the progress of the investigation. The judges inquired whether the CCTV footage had been reviewed. The lawyer representing the case reported that the Safe City cameras had not provided any useful evidence. However, the vehicle used in the abduction was reportedly sighted in the Red Zone J Judges Sector. Justice Kiyani expressed concern, asking if the presence of the vehicle in the Red Zone implied that a judge might have been involved in the disappearance. The lawyer clarified that they were not making such an accusation but noted that the vehicle had been observed in the area for two days.

Discrepancies and Concerns

The Assistant Attorney General informed the court that the vehicle in question was not present in Islamabad. Justice Kiyani countered, suggesting that if the vehicle wasn’t with the police, it might be with another agency. He stressed that the situation could not be dismissed as a case of someone being abducted from Afghanistan. The court underscored that if the individual was involved in any criminal case, he should be presented before a magistrate. Justice Kiyani further admonished the authorities, indicating that if no progress was made within the next eleven days, the case would not advance.

The court highlighted that hundreds of cases are managed in Islamabad. Urged the police to trace any potential cases involving Samiullah. The responsibility for city security and order rests with the IG, and failure to fulfill these duties could result in severe repercussions. Justice Kiyani made it clear that if Samiullah was not recovered promptly. He would issue orders for an FIR against the IG.

Case Adjourned

The hearing was adjourned until July 22, with the case being assigned to another bench as Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani will be on summer vacation. The court’s directive underscores the urgency and gravity of the situation. Pressing the police to act swiftly to resolve the case and ensure accountability.
