Spain Introduces Age Verification App for Adult Content

To curb underage access to pornographic material. Spain has introduced a new application requiring age verification and limiting the number of viewable credits.

The ‘Digital Wallet Beta’ App

Media reports refer to the “Digital Wallet Beta” application locally as “Passport.”
This mobile app will enable adult content platforms to verify whether a user is over 18. Users will be prompted to use the mobile app to confirm their age.

Functionality and Verification Process

This application will function as a digital wallet on mobile phones, verifying users’ age through one of the five government-issued IDs. Once the user’s age is confirmed, they will receive 30 valid credits for one month.

Credit System and Access

Users will use the credits to access adult content, which will regulate the consumption of such material. If users require additional credits, they can request more. The system controls the amount of explicit content one can access within a certain period.
This controlled approach balances access while preventing overconsumption, especially among younger users.

The Motivation Behind the Move

This initiative is a response to alarming statistics from the anti-pornography group “Del Una Volta.” The group’s data showed that more and more minors were reaching adult content, which prompted them to call for more robust measures. They discovered that explicit materials expose a lot of youngsters, so both activists and the government took steps to address this issue.

Government Reaction

After reading these results, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez shared his deep distress with what he called devastating numbers; saying almost 50% under 15 have watched pornographic videos is just showing how urgently we need to act. Administrations would see the use of the “Passport” app as a significant tool for protecting children against such things.

Execution And Anticipated Results

The government has introduced the ‘passport’ application as part of more comprehensive plans to improve digital safety while fostering responsible online content consumption within Spain and beyond its borders. Consequently, this move will enable age verification combined with credit systems, thus setting an example for other states grappling with similar challenges. The government expects that charging credits will allow children to access pornography. Also, it should encourage safer internet practices among young people.

Backing From the Public And Parents

Different groups of people, especially parents and educators, have supported the initiative because they perceive it as necessary to protect kids from harmful materials on the web. Additionally, the majority feel that apart from restricting its usage, they could also create awareness about the dangers associated with uncontrolled exposure to explicit content among many users.
