Kenyan Court Rules on Arshad Sharif Murder Case

 

The Kenyan Court of Appeal has given a landmark ruling that requires investigation. And prosecution in the murder case of journalist Arshad Sharif. The High Court in Nairobi declared the killing illegal and unconstitutional. Further directing that the authorities pay Sharif’s family compensation of $150,000.

Arshad Sharif was driving at night on October 22 and 20 two thousand twenty-two when he was fatally shot. He was shot dead by the police of Kenya, who killed him too early by shooting at him. The event triggered widespread protests demanding transparency and proper investigations into what happened, but these were local and international. The ruling by the court for quick completion of the investigation shows a significant move towards openness and answerability according to the law.

Family Reaction

After this judgment, Javeria Siddique’s widow expressed herself, saying, “I have mixed feelings relief still ongoing distress because justice is served here in Kenya where it should have been delivered first but not fulfilled my quest for justice back home.” She added that no one was with her during those difficult times. She fought alone from inside house walls, but many people from Pakistan supported me together with some media houses fully.”

Wider Effects

This ruling by the Kenyan High Court establishes how cases concerning foreigners are handled and highlights the need for lawful behavior among security organs. Also, awarding damages to Mr. Arsahd’s relatives acknowledges wrongful death, and reparations are required.
