On Muharram 9th, the nation will see processions to honor the martyrs of Karbala, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and the Holy Prophet’s grandson (PBUH). These processions will be accompanied by unwavering security and a solid religious focus.
Cities like Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi are expected to see large mourning processions and gatherings. The streets have been heavily guarded while mobile phone services remain partially suspended in different cities along procession routes.
In addition to this, water and food stalls have also been set up for mourners along procession routes.
Lahore 9th Muharram
In Lahore, the main procession of the 9th Muharram would start from Pandu Street Islampura and culminate at Khema Sadaat after passing through its traditional routes, including Islampura Bazaar, Secretariat, and Old Anarkali.
Stringent security agreements were made around the main procession route, where walk-through gates were installed. To prevent mishaps, barbed wire, and containers were used to seal off the starting point of a procession and its route.
Islamabad 9th Muharram
The 9th Muharram procession in Islamabad would begin at Imambargah G-6 and end at Imambargah after traversing through a specified route.
Strict protection arrangements were made along the route, where walk-through gates were installed for participants, and different pathways around were sealed off for general traffic during the procession’s timings.
Karachi
In Karachi, the 9th Muharram procession would start from Liaquatabad Martin Quarter and conclude there after reaching Nishtar Park by noon.
Similarly, the main city procession would start from Nishtar Park, culminating in Khardar Hussainia Iranian Imambargah after passing through designated routes. According to Karachi Traffic Police, MA Jinnah Road will remain closed to daily traffic. Citizens can use alternative routes, including Corridor 3, Soldier Bazaar, Kashmir Road, Peoples Chowrangi, and Shahrah-e-Quaideen. Mobile phone signals would be shut down in and around procession routes while over 7000 security personnel have been deployed for the security of the main procession.
Peshawar
Eighteen mourning processions, including two main processions of Shabeeh Zuljanah, will be removed from Peshawar today.
The first procession in Peshawar would start from Saddar Imambargah Hussainia Hall at 10 AM. In contrast, the second would begin from Imambargah Qamar Bani Hashim Ali Colony City at 3 PM. The mourners would perform self-flagellation and chest-beating. The mourners of Hussainia Hall Imambargah would offer Zuhr prayers at Fawara Chowk, and after passing through designated routes. The processions would culminate at their respective Imambargahs.
Strict security agreements have been made throughout the city, and more than 14,000 police personnel have been deployed. Saddar and the inner city will be sealed entirely while mobile phone services remain partially suspended.
It may be mentioned that yesterday. The 8th Muharram procession in Karachi concluded peacefully with strict security arrangements. Containers along MA Jinnah Road, Corridor-3, and different points of Saddar sealed streets. Green Line Orange Line bus services in the city will remain suspended today and tomorrow.
Similarly, in Lahore Ali Pur Road, also known as Block Sayyedan, where the 8th Muharram procession concluded this morning. Over 5,000 police personnel deployed enhanced security arrangements along its route to avoid any untoward incident.
